Benefits of Osteopathy
Osteopathy is an established system of diagnosis and manual treatment which is recognised by the British Medical Association and is complementary to other medical disciplines. It is unique in the fact that mechanical, functional, postural and lifestyle factors are all taken into consideration when making a diagnosis.

Whether it be for acute injuries, chronic conditions or even just a musculo-skeletal 'MOT', almost everybody can benefit from osteopathy. Some of the many problems that osteopaths can help with include:

  • sports injuries
  • ailments during pregnancy
  • work-related and repetitive strain injuries
  • headaches
  • frozen shoulder
  • back pain
  • asthma
  • problem periods
  • disc problems and trapped nerves
  • painful joints
In addition, patients often find improvement in other aspects of their health after osteopathic treatment, such as in their sleeping patterns, stress levels and general well being.

Cranial Osteopathy
Cranial Osteopathy is a very gentle and subtle form of osteopathy, which makes it ideal for treating everyone from newborn babies to the elderly. Treatment can be to any part of the body and is aimed at reducing the restrictions and tensions that have led to the patient's symptoms.

Although cranial osteopathy techniques can be used during the treatment of most conditions, people often seek out cranial osteopathy for problems such as infantile colic, whiplash and irritable bowel syndrome. It is also an ideal form of treatment both during and after pregnancy.

John Hemington
I qualified as an osteopath in 2004 from the British School of Osteopathy and have worked in Osteopathic, Complementary and the NHS clinics. This has given me a broad understanding of different forms of treatments and how Osteopathy complements other therapies. This has given me a greater understanding of the complexities of the human body and the challenges of diagnosis and treatment.

I was introduced to Osteopathy 10 years ago, when a friend who had a very bad back injury failed to find any relief until she was treated by an Osteopath. The Osteopath pointed out some fairly obvious issues that cannot be determined by conventional medicine, as they cannot be seen on X-ray or MRI scan. Exercises given by physiotherapists did not help. My friend was told that she would have to live with pain for the rest of her life. The journey into a very privileged position of being an Osteopath started there.

The way I treat is based on my palpation (sense of touch) skills. As I am partially sighted and find fortunately that my sense touch is acute, I therefore tend to rely less on observation. This allows me to treat both using general osteopathic and cranial techniques, depending on what has been presented and the preference of the patient.

I have taken several modules from the Master degree programme in Cranial Osteopathy. This is to broaden my academic knowledge and improve my palpation and treatment skills.

I also have a degree in Mathematics and Finance, taken at Lancaster University.
