Benefits of Homeopathy
Homeopathy is a complete system of healing which works on the principle of ‘like cures like’. This means that any substance which causes symptoms can also be used to relieve those symptoms. For instance, chopping onions can cause eyes and nose to run severely and Allium Cepa (the onion) can be used to treat a patient with a cold or hay fever with those particular symptoms. The homeopathic prescription matches the symptoms of the remedy with the symptoms of the patient and thus causes a reaction in the patient. It is this reaction which cures the patient.
Homeopathy can be used by anyone of any age for many physical and emotional complaints. Its non-toxic and non-addictive nature makes it suitable for treating children, the elderly, pregnant women, the weak and fragile as well as the more robust.
Each patient is treated as an individual and you will be asked about your current symptoms, personal and family medical history, general lifestyle, including dietary habits, and likes and dislikes. After your case has been thoroughly considered a remedy will be prescribed (usually in the form of pills), carefully selected on the basis of the information you give.
Diane Toothe (MCPH, MARH)
Diane is a member of the Alliance of Registered Homeopaths and has been practising for nearly 15 years. She recommends that the patients maintain their relationship with their GP and is happy to discuss the homeopathic treatment with the GP, if the GP and patient so wish. It is important to note that patients should always consult their GP before making changes to their conventional medicine. Diane believes that although homeopathy has an alternative philosophy, by working together the two systems of health care can provide complementary services.
Rowland Smith (RSHom)
Rowland gained his first valuable experience as a homoeopath working with charities providing homoeopathy in London. More recently he spent three months in Botswana working with the Maun Homeopathy Project which provides free homoeopathy to people suffering with HIV and AIDS.
I have seen how effective homoeopathy can be in making a difference to people’s health against all the odds. When prescribed carefully homoeopathy really works. I would like to be able to share this skill with you so that you can confidently treat yourself, your friends and your family for a range of acute and first aid conditions."
In the courses I run I aim to take the mystery out of homoeopathy, give you a new perspective on health and illness, explain the remedies and their application by examples from cases and to share my skills with you.
Introductory course on homeopathic prescribing
If you have ever tried prescribing homoeopathic remedies for friends and family and found it to be a hit and miss affair this course is for you.
Homoeopathy can appear challenging and bewildering at first sight. How do you choose the right remedy? How long should you give the remedy for?
Charts and leaflets in pharmacies and health food shops only give brief descriptions, many books on the subject either over simplify or over complicate the process. This can lead to a disappointing experience. By taking a practical six week introductory course in homoeopathy you can learn the methods I use as professional homoeopath to find the right remedy an treat illness effectively.
What will I learn in this course?
In this course you will learn how to prescribe homoeopathic remedies effectively by learning the methods used by professional homoeopaths. With a solid foundation in homoeopathic principles the emphasis of the course is on giving you practical homoeopathic skills and basic natural health techniques to confidently care for your family. The course will help you understand health from a homoeopathic perspective and provide you with the skills you need to practice safely and effectively treat a wide range of short term problems.
A 6 week introduction to homoeopathy course covers the following topics . . .
Week 1 introduces you to history and guiding principles of homoeopathy, the emphasis is on what you can safely treat by yourself, demystifying homoeopathy guiding you through case taking, prescribing safely and introducing you to the remedy kit.
Week 2 builds on the basic prescribing skills you learned in week one by introducing you to Arnica, Bellis Perenis, Calendula and Hypericum, four very useful remedies for minor injuries and more with advice on basic safety in first aid situations.
Week 3 covers ABC and beyond. Aconite, Belladonna and Chamomilla are excellent remedies for childhood illnesses ranging from teething problems through to mumps and chicken pox. This week emphasises the importance of individualised prescribing.
Week 4 re-emphasises the importance of individualised treatment and the skills necessary for making a choice between remedies. This week we practice those skills and learn about hay fever remedies including Allium Cepa, Euphrasia, Arsenicum and Nux Vom.
Week 5 provides you with an armoury of cough, cold and flu remedies including Aconite, Bryonia, Gelsemium, and Pulsatilla.
Week 6 covers remedies which every traveller might need to treat travel sickness, bites and stings, sunburn and diarrhoea.
Courses begin on Monday 12th April 2010 and run until 24th May with a one week break between weeks three and four. Classes run on Monday mornings from 10am to 12pm and Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm. Classes cost £10 for 2 hours including materials. Cost of the full 6 weeks payable in advance. Spaces are limited, so booking early is essential.
